The benefits of regular, professional dental cleanings

There are many reasons that the Beacon Dental Clinic, based in Sandyford stresses the importance of a regular, professional dental cleaning.

Daily dental care and regular visits to a professional dentist are both necessary for the best dental health. In addition to helping your teeth to stay looking smooth and white, dental cleanings can also give our dentists the opportunity to spot dental decay before it has the chance to do serious damage, and to identify other oral health problems that could jeopardise your health.

Some people can be hesitant about attending the dentist but there is no need to worry about your upcoming dental cleaning.  Dental cleanings are easy, fast, and incredibly effective. Here is a step-by-step list of what to expect during your next professional cleaning.

  • Calculus Removal

Your dentist will use a variety of dental tools to gently clean plaque and tartar off of your teeth. During this stage, your dentist will also look for problems like cavities, inflammation, and decay.

  • Professional Brushing and Flossing

After your calculus removal, your hygienist will use ultra sonic brushing tools to polish your teeth. A mildly abrasive toothpaste is used to remove leftover plaque and tartar that may have been missed during the calculus cleaning. After the teeth are brushed, they are flossed carefully at each point of contact, and then your teeth will be rinsed with water.

  • Inspection by the Dentist

After your teeth are clean, they will be carefully re-examined by one of our dentist. Our dentist will look for other signs of dental decay and talk with you about your teeth. Our goal is to make sure that we have addressed every single question or dental issue before you leave our office.

  • Follow Up Appointments

If our clinicians uncover dental decay, they will ask you to schedule a follow up appointment to have the problems addressed. Our office is incredibly flexible and we love helping patients to get the care they need.

The Dental Association recommends meeting with your dentist regularly for dental cleanings. For most patients, meeting with our dentists once every six months is sufficient to ward off dental decay. However, if you have ongoing problems with gum disease or periodontitis, you may need more frequent exams and cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy and comfortable. Schedule your next professional dental cleaning today, and keep your smile clean and beautiful.
